2 spool lines provided (1 spare)
For lighter duty trimming work
Foot pedal head adjustment
Wheel support for edging
Front handle is adjustable
Flower guard included
Tele-shaft is height adjustable

Pros for the Spear & Jackson 25cm 350W Corded Grass Trimmer:

  • This is one of the lowest prices you will see around so it is ideal if you are seeking a bargain of a high-quality trimmer at the best possible price
  • The warranty level of 3 years is excellent in our view and it is great to see this company stand over their products like this with such confidence
  • The wheel support is great around edging which gives a much cleaner, neater and tidier finish around the edges – overall you get a nice professional look around any type of border using the wheel
  • The foot pedal adjustment works great also where you can adjust the angle of the cutting head which is perfect for those awkward spots.
  • Working the trimmer provides lot of different features such as the height adjustable shaft, the flower guard and the angles of the front handle can also be adjusted to provide maximum comfort and reduce the level of hand or arm fatigue that may set in.
  • It provides you with an auto line feed so you don’t need to worry about trying to provide a line yourself – the line filters through the feed automatically
  • As the head can be tilted, you can easily trim under benches, garden furniture or even trampolines which is a nice additional feature to have

Cons for the Spear & Jackson 25cm 350W Corded Grass Trimmer:

  • The power level is quite low for this model so it is only capable of dealing with lighter type duty trimming work – won’t be powerful enough to handle thicker or denser grasses or brambles
  • As it is corded, you always have to be extra careful with cables and cords lying around as you work. You need to develop a technique to avoid the cable or extension cord lying across the yard while grass trimming
  • The string can tend to break a little easier than expected so you need to work it with more care instead of ploughing into tall thick dense grasses. The quality of the line here could be stronger and better with handling weeds

Price Guide: £35 to £50

Spear & Jackson Cordless Grass Trimmers - Pros & Cons

Pros for the Cordless Spear & Jackson Grass trimmers

  • The lightweight design makes these a great tool for trimming for longer periods of time. Plus, the handles can be adjusted to reduce arm and hand fatigue
  • No cables or cords to worry about across your lawn as you work – more freedom to work different harder to reach areas across your lawn.
  • Prices for the cordless are actually lower than what we expected and not far off the corded versions so there is good value going the cordless route if preferred
  • It can suit various heights as the shaft can be easily adjusted to suit the needs of different people’s heights

Cons for the Cordless Spear & Jackson Grass trimmers

  • Like the corded grass trimmers, the strength of the trimming cord could be better as it tends to break with heavier foliage and heavier duty work
  • Wet foliage and more difficult trimming work tends to deplete the battery a lot quicker than expected.
  • You are limited to a specific working timeframe so you may need to get additional batteries as backup which can be an unexpected added expense.

Section 4: Conclusion & Feedback

Conclusion

For extra power, our preference on the Corded grass trimmer would have to be the 30cm 600W as it can do a really great trimming job and the extra money you need to pay is not all that bad to be fair – generally it would less than £30 extra that the lower priced 25cm 350W grass trimmer model. The quality of the line could be somewhat better to avoid it breaking especially on denser areas or tougher weeds but the fact that it can handle other lines from universal brands means that this small problem can be solved quite easily as the trimmer tool itself is excellent and we would highly recommend it to gardeners across the UK.

For larger lawns, we would recommend the cordless version S3630CT2 36V as it can avoid all the hassle associated to cables and extension cords and it gives you a lot more freedom in terms of the harder to reach areas where you need to work.

  1. Oh awesome level of info. You did a number of reviews on different trimmers from Spear and Jackson company here and I have to say you give us some nice tips to note for each of them in the range (not just one) Our trimmer got spoilt towards the end of last year and we didn’t really put it to mind to get a new one but since the grasses didn’t get too much out of control, we didn’t bother. I think it’s good to do it earlier but just wanted to express a small word of thanks for helping us decide which one to invest in for the year ahead from this brand as our neighbour has one from Spear and Jackson and never stops bragging about it.

    • Yes, they are great trimming tools and they would also be one of our favourite brands to work with when it comes to garden tools. Anyway, thanks for stopping by and best of luck with your grass trimming jobs in the months and years ahead. Regards, Steve

  2. Purchased the 600W trimmer. It worked well for a few minutes until the line broke and the auto feed stopped working. Tried the spare spool and this did exactly the same. Investigation indicated that both spools had been poorly wound.
Trimmer manual recommends not refilling spools by hand and to purchase a factory refilled item as hand rewinding can possibly cause the auto feed to jam. Both spools looked as though they had been poorly “hand wound”.
Spent more time trying to fix the issue than actually trimming grass. Had to cut the line and unwind it, losing about a metre of line off each spool. Don’t know if the rewinding has worked because I ran out of daylight.

  3. Have just bought a 600W strimmer. Every time I turn it on it cuts off 50mm of line. The line will not last long. How can I turn off the automatic feed system? I have not used it yet so am considering returning it to the supplier.

    • Hey, I have used this trimmer for over 2 years and the line is still fine. Avoid stopping and starting all the time. A small piece of line coming off when it starts is completely normal. Best of luck
