Part 1: Best Cordless Lawn Mowers - Bosch, Murray and Flymo

1, Bosch Cordless 32cm 36V Rotak Lawnmower

Brief Summary:

Cutting Width 32cm
36 V 2.0 Ah battery included
Grass box 31 Litre capacity
Mow heights 3 to 6cm
Charge time 70 minutes
ErgoFlex handles / Weight 10.2kg
Warranty of 2 to 3 years
3rd year if you register online

Main Features in Detail:

Starting off at number 1 and one of our all-time favourites is the Bosch Cordless 32cm wide 36V Rotak Lawnmower which we found to leave a very neat and tidy finish across the lawn after the job was completed and in particular it worked well around the edges, flower beds and border timber posts. This lawn mower comes with the battery and charger included and the battery is a powerful and reliable 36V 2.0Ah battery which can certainly look after lawns up to 200/250 square meters no problem whatsoever.

The grass box is not the largest we have seen but not all that bad as it can still carry 31 litres in terms of capacity and the weight is approx. 10kg only which certainly makes it a lot easier when it comes to pushing it around your garden and especially around slopes or steep hills. The lowest level it can cut to is 3cm and the max is 6cm so if you have taller grasses, you can always start are the higher setting for the first mow and then work your way down to 3cm when it becomes more manageable.

Other great features you will enjoy here is the ErgoFLex handles which are a great help to keep control around corners and the grass combs help to keep a closer tighter finish to whatever edges you have in your garden. There are 3 mow height settings to choose from here, the battery normally takes 70 minutes to become fully recharged once again and it is an ideal choice for people with small gardens in urban areas as the sound levels are low and it is small enough in size to fit in compact spaces in your shed.

One last thing you should know is that it also has the Syneon chip for providing optimum power depending on the level and condition of grass you are mowing so it is able to regulate the energy it uses and needs to get the job done as efficiently as possible

2, Murray Cordless 44cm 36V Lawnmower

Brief Summary:

Cutting Width 44cm
5.0Ah battery x 2 included
Grass box 50 Litre capacity
Mow heights 2.5 to 7.5cm
Charge time 45 minutes
Weight 14kg / Dual charger
Warranty of 5 years
Battery warranty 3 years

Main Features in Detail:

At number 2, we have the very popular Murray Cordless 44cm wide 36V Lawnmower which also comes with a smaller version of 37cm wide option if you are looking to spend a little less for your new investment. Of the main attractions here without a doubt is the wider mow path width of 44cm which means less mow paths are needed and is designed for people who have a larger than normal small garden so it can be used for people who have gardens up to 640 meters squared.

Another key point is the fact that it has one of the longest warranties we have seen which comes in at 5 years on the lawn mower and 3 years on the battery which certainly adds confidence when the supplier can stand over the quality of their products like this. There is also the larger grass box of 50 litres which means less time emptying the grass cuttings, the mow heights available are adjusted over 7 settings from 2.5cm up to 7.5cm and it can be folded down when not in use which is ideal for people with only compact storage spaces available.

It is powered with a Briggs and Stratton 18V x 2 lithium-ion battery system and it includes a 5.0 Ah lithium-ion battery and dual charger in the box. Recharging normally takes 45 minutes on average and you can expect the batteries to run for 30 to 35 minutes before having to recharge again.

In addition, you get the soft grips on the handles, a great grass collector which doesn’t leave too many clippings behind and the level of noise you and your neighbours will have to deal with is quite low. The bag filling indicator is useful to have also along with the high rear wheels to help with movements around the garden and manoeuvre easily across all types of different terrains.

3, Flymo Mighti-Mo 30cm 40V Cordless Lawn Mower

Brief Summary:

For lawns up to 250m²
Cutting Width 30cm
2.0Ah battery included
Grass box 30 Litre capacity
Mow heights 2.5 to 6.5cm
Charge time avg 120 mins
Weight approx. 10kg
Warranty of 1 year

Main Features in Detail:

Up next is the Flymo Mighti-Mo 30cm wide 40V Cordless Lawn Mower which is a smaller machine but works great for lawns up to 250 meters squared and it is also backed by tons of positive reviews from previous users in the UK which certainly adds confidence about this brand and model.

The other main attractions here also are the simplicity when using this lawn mower and its lightweight design along with the lower price tag as it is generally on sale for less than £200 which is a bargain for what you are getting. It is still not the cheapest we have seen but it is certainly among the lower priced solutions category. The battery here is a 40V 2.0Ah battery which normally takes around 120 minutes to fully recharge again and the battery tends to last for 30 to 40 minutes depending on grass conditions (thickness, height, dampness). You get 5 different mow height adjustments which work from 2.5cm to 6.5cm and the battery charger and battery are included in the box.

One thing to note though is that the grass box is one of the smallest around and holds just 30 litre of capacity so be prepared for frequent emptying which won’t be all that much anyway for your garden of 250 square meters or less.

Another thing worth pointing out is that you get back up and support from Flymo direct in the UK on 0344 844 4558 who can deal with any problems if they arise and there is a safety key included which will prevent and accidental start-ups – overall a small machine which is a lot more powerful than it looks and leaves a tidy cut finish across the lawn.

Grass box 30 Litre capacity
Mow heights 2 to 7cm

Main Features in Detail:

This cordless lawn mower has two 20V 2.0Ah batteries included and it generally takes 60 minutes to have them fully recharged and the runtime on the charged battery usually lasts around 30 to 35 minutes depending on individual grass conditions.

There are 2 Lithium ion batteries included along with the dual battery charger, the width of the mow paths is 34cm wide and it gives you 5 different mow height settings which range from 2cm up as far as 7cm. The dual charger is handy also as you can recharge both of the batteries at the same time

The batteries work quite well and they have the Intellicut technology so that the power can be adjusted depending on grass conditions, it can cut really tight around borders, flower beds and edges and the batteries here are also interchangeable with other 20V Worx tools so money can be saved that way.

The mow heights can be adjusted using a single lever which is very easy to use, it is lightweight at only 12kg so pushing it around the garden or even up hills is no problem whatsoever. The quality of the finish around borders is excellent in our opinion which means less work is needed afterwards when using a grass trimmer. In terms of warranty, you get 2 years as standard and a third year is available if you register your purchase online within 28 days.

5, Yard Force 37cm 40V Cordless Lawn Mower

Brief Summary:

For larger lawns up to 400m²
Cutting Width of 37cm
40V Samsung battery included
Larger grass box 40 Litre capacity
Mow heights 2.5 to 7.5cm
Charge time avg 80 mins
Weight approx. 16g
Stronger battery 2.5Ah

Unlike many other lawn mowers, this cordless lawn mower comes with the rear roller which gives an attractive set of stripes across your lawn which will be the envy of your neighbours and there is also an option to buy this with an extra battery also which can be found on sale usually around £270 to £330.

Not only has it a more powerful battery for extra runtime, it has a wider mowing path of 37cm and also a larger grass box collection unit of 40L which means less time emptying and more time mowing. The motor here is also a brushless motor which means a longer shelf life and more optimum efficiency, performance and power. The battery is a Samsung 40V lithium-ion 2.5Ah battery and it generally takes 70 to 80 minutes to become fully recharged once again. The mow heights are adjusted using a single lever and you get 7 settings that range from 2.5cm up to 7.5cm.

One thing you will find useful here is the grass full level indicator on the grass box so you know in advance when it needs to be emptied. The weight is slightly heavier at 16kg, it can be folded down after use for compact storage and it comes with a nice soft grip handle which helps to reduce hand fatigue that may set in.

For the warranty, they provide a 2-year standard warranty and a third year is available if your purchase is registered online with them within 28 days of purchase. 6, Greenworks 41cm 40V Cordless Lawn Mower (2504707UC)

Brief Summary:

For lawns up to 300m²
Cutting Width of 41cm
40V 2.0Ah battery included
Larger grass box 50 Litre capacity
Mow heights 2.5 to 7.5cm
Charge time avg 60 mins

Batteries 2.0Ah x 2 / Top handle
Warranty 12 months

Main Features in Detail:

At number 6, we have the reliable Greenworks 41cm wide Cordless Lawn Mower with 40V of battery power which tends to get the job done a lot faster with the wider mowing deck of 41cm. We really liked the feel and workability of this lawn mower and we see that it is also backed with several positive reviews from previous buyers based in the UK.

Although this lawn mower wouldn’t be our number 1 on this list, it certainly was a lot better than expected and the battery power and battery life reached our expectations and was able to deal with damp grass, tall grasses and thick heavy grass at the higher settings. Once the tall grass was mowed on the higher setting, a second pass was needed to bring it down to the mow height we needed. Typically, this lawn mower is designed for lawns around the 300-meter squared area.

This model is 41cm wide but there is also a smaller lower priced version available from Greenworks which is 35cm wide. You also have the option of getting the bare tool without the batteries also if you have the batteries already in stock which again can help save you some money. The grass box is larger here also with a capacity of 50 litres, it has 5 mow height settings which ranges from 2cm to 7cm and it has a nice and handy top handle carrier which makes it easier when it needs to be carried into the shed.

The deck here is nice and solid, it has a nice feel to it and the safety starter key is included as standard. Despite being electric, this lawn mower actually gives a lot more power than what we expected and was able to deal with thicker and damp grasses no problem whatsoever.

  1. I have a cordless lawnmower that is not working properly, it’s been that way for a couple of months now. It only lasted for five months before this malfunctioning. I took it back, it was fixed and brought back but the issues came up again. Well I love the suggestions you have made and I am looking forward to getting a new one. I will definitely pick one on this list now and I hope it doesn’t give me the same issues as the last one I had.

  2. Thanks Steve for this great article about lawn mowers – especially that these are cordless machines and they all have their own unique features wish is nice but I got my eyes on Murray cordless 44cm cause of the battery capacity and Yard Force 37cm cause of the large lawn capability and the prices are very okay. Even though they cost more initially, there are savings to be made with maintenance costs in the long run.

  3. Well thank you for a very impressive list of cordless mowers.  I’m a big gardening fan and I like many of these brands – some of which I have used regularly before so I am some-what accustomed to them.  The one that stands out here for me is the Murray cordless mower as it looks very impressive and would make any lawn cutting job a piece of cake

  4. Gardening is a hobby of mine.  I was thinking of buying a cordless lawn mower for my garden as the petrol ones require too much maintenance and they are too hard to get started at times. It is good to know more about them now as I have read your article in it and the best cordless ones to choose from.  Maintaining is very straightforward because it does not require any gasoline or oil. The best part of it is cordless that doesn’t require any cords either. Appreciate the work in putting this list together to give us a clear direction which way to go

  5. Very good review and it gives me a lot of direction as I am a little clueless with lawn mowers plus I didn’t realise which cordless Lawn mower would work best for me. But after reading your article, I decided that the Murray Cordless 44cm Lawn mower would be best solution for me. Thanks for giving me a good direction for our home and all the relevant info that I needed to make my final choice – hopefully it will work as well as expected and hopefully it will last a good number of years.

  6. Hello, I really like your post on cordless mowers. One of the many advantages of using this type of model is that it’s lightweight and easier to maneuver around the lawn unlike the a Gas Lawn Mower that requires more strength to push around and walk behind. The battery operated model runs less risk whereas the Electric Lawn Mower can be a health and safety concern if you come into contact with water. thank you for your review as it certainly helped us in our selection for next Spring!

  7. The cordless lawn mowers are usually the best for larger gardens as navigating the cable cord or extension cord across the lawn and trying to avoid it can be hassle I could do without.. These Lawn Mowers are portable through the use of rechargeable lawn batteries, and they are environmentally friendly which is the way to go as we all need to reduce our own carbon footprints and reduce the wider society of gas emissions. I have used Murray tools for other jobs around the house and garden and they never let me down so the one I would choose from this list would definitely have to be the Murray 46cm lawn mower as it has the extra power and wider than normal mow path. That’s my opinion anyway but thanks anyway for compiling this useful list.

    • Yes, that would be a great choice and it is also certainly one of our favourites when choosing to use a cordless lawnmower. Regards, Steve

  8. Hello Steve, thank you for sharing your top 10 best cordless lawn mowers as I am looking ahead for Spring of next year.  The truth is it’s hard these days to get the best of products  but it’s very easy now as you have done all the heavy lifting and done all the research so many thanks for that!. I agree that a moderated priced mower will do a greater job than cheap or expensive ones. Bosch and Hyundai are popular brands for me that I know and they’re well known also for their quality and reliable products so I am convinced that these 2 would be truly the best for me. Kind Regards, MrBizzy

    • You are very welcome and many thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule to stop by and leave your feedback. Regards, Steve
