Best Garden Shredders UK 2024 – Brands

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

Do you need a reliable Garden Shredder over the next few days or weeks for your garden waste debris and hedge trimmings? If so, then check out our review for what we believe are the 5 best Garden Shredders available in the UK at present and most of these can be ordered online and delivered to your home hassle free. Some will operate a click and collect system from time to time but generally speaking, most will operate a home delivery service. We have reviewed over 20 home Garden Shredders and we have narrowed it down to what we believe are the 5 best solutions for you to consider.

Price Ranges

We have avoided many of the Garden Shredders that we believed were too expensive and stuck with the brands that we felt offered the best value for the amount of money you need to spend. Some of the Garden Shredders here are available for less than £200 so if price is what you are after, then there should be enough here to tick that particular box. That being said, we have included one higher priced option over £400 for you to consider also if you have a higher level of cash available at your disposal…

Leftover Shredding

There are various different ways to use the Shredding such as adding it to various flower beds across the garden or to be used as compost or in flower pots if you have any that need to be filled. It looks well between shrubs in particular and helps to provide essential nutrients for the seasons ahead. General garden waste can be added such as hedge trimmings but you need to make sure that all the hedge trimmings and debris are added in on a gradual basis instead of trying to rush and force feed it. The likes of brambles can also be added to many of these Garden shredders as long as the widths are in line with the shredder diameters in question.

Shredder Comparisons

To ensure you have all the necessary information about power levels, branch cutting diameters, box capacities and so on, we have included a useful comparison table at the end of this page so you should check that out when you have the time which will help clear up any further questions you may have. It will also be useful to see them side by side when it comes to the capabilities, power and features so you know exactly in advance what you can expect to get when it arrives at your doorstep.

Best Garden Shredders in the UK – 5 Recommendations

Option 1: Bosch 2500W Quiet Garden Shredder - AXT25TC

Main Points to Note:

Power level is 2500W
Reverse switch for jams
Transport wheels included
Collection box 53L capacity
Max 45mm waste diameter
Longer cable 4.5m length
Turbine cutting system
5 day repair service available

Garden Shredder Overview:

  • Our second Garden Shredder is more expensive that the first and it’s the Bosch 2500W Quiet Garden Shredder code reference AXT25TC which tends to be on sale at a price range of over £400 so be prepared in advance to dig deeper into your pockets for this Garden Shredder from Bosch.
  • Not all UK suppliers will have a ready supply of these Bosch Garden Shredders but they tend to be stocked quite well from what we have seen at Homebase and home deliveries normally take between 4 to 7 working days. The click and collect system wasn’t available at the time of this review as it was only eligible for online ordering with a home delivery.
  • What you will like straight away is the speed in which this machine can shred up garden waste and trimmings and you can expect it to shred anywhere from 220kg to 230kg per hour and the noise level was significantly lower than expected which is always a good thing when it comes to Shredders. It offers a unique Turbine cutting system which supports the higher volumes of debris throughput which again helps to prevent any potential blockages or jams.
  • The maximum width of the trimmings or debris needs to be 45mm and the collection box is slightly smaller at 53 litre capacity. The auto feed into the shredder blades worked perfectly and the hopper can be removed quite easily to your designated locations be it your compost heaps or flower beds.
  • Finally, there is a 5 day turnaround service available directly with Bosch for any potential issues you may have and it comes with a standard 2 year warranty to protect your investment (can be extended to 3 years directly with Bosch online)

Waste max 42mm diameter

Garden Shredder Overview:

  • The first garden shredder that we really liked was the Spear & Jackson Crush & Quiet Garden Shredder with a power level of 2800W code reference S28ES which tends to be on sale for less than £200 when seen at the time of this review (double check further below).  This machine starts easily and is plenty powerful enough to deal with various gardening items including small branches up to a maximum width of 42mm.
  • You will be impressed with the overall safety precautions included in the operation such as the safety plunger which allows the debris to be pushed down without using your hands near the blades and the safety feature of not being able to operate it either if the collection  box is not fully sealed and closed.
  • The transport wheels come in handy when moving it from the garage and it has a decent length cord of 3m included but you may need to invest in additional extensions cords where necessary. The noise levels compare very well against other brands and the size of the collection box has the ability to hold a capacity of 60 litres.
  • Another really useful feature is the reverse switch which helps to clear any debris away or any potential jams in the shredder which tends to happen with higher volumes or larger than normal items for shredding. What is leftover is crushed and shredded and can be used on flower beds as wood chippings or even as mulch.
  • It comes with the automatic feed as standard, a blade speed of 45 rpm and it comes backed with a 3 year warranty from Spear & Jackson (originates from Sheffield)

Garden Shredder Overview:

  • Our third recommendation is from a brand that you may not be too familiar with and it’s the Powerbase Quiet Garden Shredder with a high torque turbo drive 2800W motor which has a similar cutting performance and noise level to the other Shredders on this list. This machine is very impressive overall and is well capable of shredding garden waste such as hedge trimmings and brambles in no time at all.
  • For the waste diameter, the maximum guide you need to work towards is 42mm which tends to be plenty enough for wooden hedge trimmings and various other garden waste items. It is supported with a powder coated metal frame which is resistant to rust and it comes with a larger waste disposal container with a capacity of 60 litres.
  • All the leftovers in the waste box can be used as mulch around your flower beds, shrubs or flower pots or they can be added to your compost heap. For the safety features, it comes will all the functions you would expect such as the child lock, safety switch and the plunger to help you get in more stubborn waste. For any jams or blockages, you can apply the reverse switch which works exactly as expected to get them cleared.
  • The length of the power cable here is 3m long and it comes with good solid transport wheels that are attached securely to the frame. Removing the waste container is easy when it is filled and another safety feature is the fact that the machine won’t operate unless the waste box has been locked back into position.
